Wildlife crossings may effectively save animals' lives

Despite the fact that many of us have never had the opportunity to view a mountain lion in person, lions are clearly present among us. You may believe that mountain lions are doing well if you look at security camera footage and social media posts of P-22, the famous mountain lion in Southern California. You'd be mistaken. Scientists worry that cougars, as they are frequently called, could become extinct in the areas where they currently live within decades as their territory and gene pool continue to diminish. Mountain lions and other endangered species face a number of lethal obstacles, including fast automobiles, rat poison, and fragmented habitats.Wildlife crossings Three generations of mountain lions had been lost on perilous roads in the Santa Monica Mountains when a cat known to biologists as P-54 was hit by a car and died in June. Her mother passed away in 2018, and her son had died a few months prior. P-89, who had been killed by a car four times in the previous five months in the Los Angeles region, passed away on the 101 Freeway a month later. Due to this depressing fact, I have teamed up with Assemblymen Ash Kalra and Kevin Mullin to draught Assembly Bill 2344, which would increase the number of animal crossings on our network of roads. We can make our roadways safer for both drivers and wildlife by giving highway overpasses, underpasses, and other essential improvements priority. Because of poorly planned roads and construction, butterflies, foxes, desert tortoises, California newts, and other species are no longer able to roam freely around their home ranges.
