Threads of Learning Academy: A Hands-On Haven for Neurodivergent Learners
Threads of Learning Academy is the result of a journey I never planned—but one I wouldn’t trade for the world.
Twelve years ago, when my son was born, I had a vision for his future, as many parents do. But life had a better plan. My son, who is autistic, dyslexic, and has ADHD, didn’t just change my expectations—he completely transformed the way I see the world.
Navigating his early years meant juggling therapies, appointments, and daily challenges. To create the flexibility our family needed, I began teaching crafting classes—and discovered my calling. I fell in love with teaching kids through creativity, watching their confidence grow stitch by stitch.
More importantly, my son’s unique way of thinking inspired me to question traditional education models. As we embraced homeschooling, I dove deep into understanding neurodivergence. What I found was powerful: hands-on, interest-driven learning isn’t just helpful for neurodivergent kids—it works better for all kids.
That understanding became the foundation for Threads of Learning Academy—a microschool built on creativity, compassion, and curiosity. Here, kids learn by doing. Through sewing, building, crafting, and making, we teach math, science, reading, and more—customized to each child's level and interests. It's not just about education. It’s about affirmation, empowerment, and joy.
This Kickstarter is more than a fundraiser—it's an invitation to help build something truly meaningful: a neurodivergent-affirming space where children thrive by being exactly who they are.
