A Lego device that automatically stacks & topple 2,000 dominoes in just 60 minutes

Grant Davis has designed and built a Lego machine that can stack and topple 120,000 dominoes in a 24-hour period. It was a world record-breaking invention, but Jason Allemann of JK Brickworks could undoubtedly exceed it with their most recent Lego masterpiece. There were only 10 dominoes in Davis' machine, and they would fall in order before being reset in reverse order by motorized mechanisms. The cycle finished in about seven seconds, yes! The extremely skilled builder Allemann, whose creations have actually been made into actual Lego sets, adopted a completely different strategy. Allemann's machine has 64 Lego dominoes falling in a perpetual ring as opposed to just 10 falling in a straight line.  A small train runs around a track on the inside of the domino ring to elegantly handle the re-stacking process. As it passes, the ramp activates levers that raise each domino back up. Dominoes are therefore falling on one side of the ring while being restacked on the other. A Lego Mindstorms EV3 unit and a sensor help regulate the train's speed so that it always corresponds to the speed of the dominoes falling on the other side, preventing it from defying gravity's pull. Both needlessly and engrossingly clever, it is complex. The Mindstorms EV3 device can measure the speed at which the dominoes are falling thanks to the sensor. Moreover, if the machine were left running for 24 hours without any unforeseen problems or breakdowns, 1,500 dominoes would fall on average every minute. More than two million dominoes could fall as a result of it.
