- It's Not (Just) a VR Headset: While technically a virtual reality (VR) headset, Apple likes to call the Vision Pro a "spatial computing" device. Obscuring the lines between VR and expanded reality (AR), it presents the idea of mixed reality. The headset has refined cameras, including a dedicated TrueDepth camera and LiDAR sensor, letting it to combine virtual elements perfectly with the real world.
- It's Not for Walking Around Outside: Regardless of providing a view of your surroundings through its cutting-edge cameras, the Vision Pro is not created for walking around outdoors. Carefulness is instructed when using any device that blurs vision. Moreover, with a battery life of approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, it's not planned for continued outdoor use.
- It Doesn't Have Controllers (Besides Your Hands): In a release from traditional VR setups, the Vision Pro lacks physical controllers. Rather, it depends on a collection of refined cameras and sensors to analyze hand gestures and track eye movements. The device presents a digital crown, identical to the one found on the Apple Watch, giving additional control options.
- It's Built on macOS and iOS: Operating on a new operating system called visionOS, the Vision Pro is based on macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. This custom OS is crafted for spatial analysis and 3D image generation. Users aware of Apple's working will find recognizable interface parts, making the transition smoother for those familiar with iPhones, iPads, or Macs.
- It's Ready For Movies: Amusement takes the spotlight with the Apple Vision Pro. Fitted with the Apple TV app, users can enjoy movies and TV shows in a virtual theater or as a large floating screen in their living room. The device supports different streaming services, including Apple TV+, Disney+, ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and more. Further, it gives a theatre-like experience for 3D movies.
- It's as Powerful as an iPad Pro: Beneath its elegant body, the Vision Pro boasts powerful processing power. Powered by Apple's M2 chip, the same chip seen in the iPad Pro, this headset offers a strong performance. The M2 is complemented by the R1 chip, a reliable processor for managing dimensional computing duties. This powerful combination ensures a perfect and responsive user experience.
- Where and How to Buy It: For those willing to invest, pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro start on January 19 through Apple's official website. The device will be available for purchase at Apple Stores starting February 2. As Apple highly controls the launch, don't hope to find it on other dealers like Amazon or Best Buy in the beginning.
