Apple said on Thursday that it will release a standalone app called Apple Music Classical on March 28. Existing Apple Music users will be able to download it for free.

According to Apple, the catalogue will debut with thousands of exclusive albums and more than five million unique tracks. The standalone app, according to Apple, would offer “full and accurate metadata” and the option to “search by composer, work, conductor, or even catalogue number,” according to a statement. Many classical pieces have had numerous recordings and interpretations made and released.

In August 2021, the business purchased Primephonic, a highly regarded classical music streaming service. According to a statement made at the time by Apple, users would “enjoy a considerably better classical music experience, starting with Primephonic playlists and exclusive audio material.”

An internet connection will be needed to enjoy Apple Music Classical.

An Android version will be “coming soon,” the company said.
