As the number of electric vehicles on our roads grows, the demand for parking spaces equipped with charging stations also increases. Instead of creating more dedicated spots for electric vehicles, parking garage operators may soon adopt
Autev charging robots developed by a Seattle-based startup.
These robots, which resemble large batteries on wheels, can autonomously navigate to a user's electric car or any other type of EV when summoned through a mobile app. The vehicle can be parked in any spot within the parking garage, regardless of whether it is specifically designated for EVs.
Once the robot arrives at the vehicle, the user simply connects its charging cable to their car's charging port and goes about their activities or errands. The robot takes care of the charging process independently.

Upon returning, the user disconnects the robot's cable, allowing it to return to its own charging station within the garage. If the user needs to leave before the charging is complete, they can adjust the desired charging capacity through the app or manually disconnect the robot's cable.
According to Osama AlSalloum, the CEO and co-founder of Autev, the robot supports DCFC fast charging technology and can charge up to six vehicles before requiring its own recharge.

The aim is to make fleets of these robots commercially available to parking garage operators by the first quarter of next year. Operators will pay a monthly fee for the service and generate revenue from customer charging fees as well as advertisements displayed on the robots.
