The BPI-M2S single-board computer, which Banana Pi first teased over a year ago, is now available for purchase. Two Amlogic SoCs, each with 4 GB of RAM and an HDMI 2.1 connection, are available for the Banana Pi BPI-M2S, along with expansion possibilities. The single-board computer (SBC) that Banana Pi had teased last year, the BPI-M2S, has now been officially released. A few specifications and 3D models were initially made public by the company. The 65 x 65 mm dimensions of the board are among the important details that have been confirmed as of the SBC's introduction on AliExpress. Banana Pi provides the BPI-M2S in two CPU variations, in contrast to many of its other SBCs. The BPI-M2S is offered with either the Amlogic A311D or Amlogic S922X SoCs, according to CNX Software. The two are fundamentally the same, with two Cortex-A53 processors running at 1.8 GHz and four ARM Cortex-A73 cores operating at 2.21 GHz. The Mali-G52 MP4 GPU in the Amlogic A311D and Amlogic S922X also supports OpenGL ES 3.2, although only the former features an NPU that provides performance of up to 5.0 TOPS. The BPI-M2S from Amlogic offers MIPI CSI and MIPI DSI connectors for cameras and displays, respectively, in addition. Along with supporting Android 9, Debian 10, and Ubuntu 20.4 the BPI-M2S has the following ports:
  • 40-pin GPIO header only once
  • 2 Gigabit Ethernet port
  • 1x HDMI 2.1
  • One USB 2.0 Type-A
Realtek RTL8822CS modules, which offer Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 5, are also supported by the BPI-M2S and are optional. Banana Pi is now selling the BPI-M2S with an Amlogic S922X for US$95.79. An alternative is the Amlogic A311D edition, which costs US$100.
