The Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR concept vehicle is created to be both sustainable and autonomous. The vehicle has a 110 kilowatt-hour electric motor capable of producing 469 horsepower and a range of approximately 435 miles. It was created with the help of Academy Award-winning director James Cameron and will debut at the 2020 CES show in Las Vegas. Mercedes claims that the car will be able to "integrate" human and machine, allowing "man and machine literally to merge." The console would be able to recognise "the human driver's heartbeat and breath" and react to his or her body movements. BMW has unveiled a concept vehicle that could scan a driver's fingerprint to turn on the car and even adjust seat position and mirrors to the driver's specifications. The Vision AVTR would establish "a biometric connection with the driver," according to the release. Hyundai introduced biometric sensors in the Santa Fe SUV earlier this year that can scan a fingerprint to unlock the vehicle. Although no graphene-based car battery currently exists, graphene could be used to create batteries that charge 12 times faster than lithium-ion batteries. The material is the world's strongest, but it's also the slimmest and can stretch like rubber. The Vision AVTR would theoretically be powered by graphene-based battery technology, another reality-based technology. (Graphene has been shown to biodegrade.) The supercar would have "transparent door shells" and an interior made of recycled materials (such as "old clothing, flags, and PET plastic bottles") and vegan leather, which has already been used in the interiors of other luxury vehicles, like the 2020 Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar I-Pace SUVs. Its wheels would glow (similar to the movie's "Tree of Souls," which glows in response to the movements of nearby beings) thanks to LEDs. According to Mercedes, the car would not only drive forward and backward, but also sideways and diagonally. This detail may also become a reality: Goodyear launched spherical concept tyres in 2016. The vehicle is part of the German automaker's larger plan to expand into electric vehicles and autonomous driving. Mercedes-Benz announced its plans for an all-electric SUV in early 2020 in September. The company also stated that it was testing a ride-hailing service in S-Class vehicles using self-driving technology.
