Cryptoqueen - The OneCoin Scam premieres at Mipcom, trailer unveiled

The documentary "Cryptoqueen - The OneCoin Scam," which has its world premiere at Mipcom in Cannes, tells the tale of the phoney cryptocurrency and its charming CEO who defrauded unsuspecting investors of up to $15 billion. A&O Buero, a production company with an Emmy award, produced the documentary, and Java Films handled international distribution. It is based on Ruja Ignatova, the creator of OneCoin, who advocated the currency at demonstrations that had the appearance of being religious assemblies. OneCoin asserted that it was on track to become the most widely used digital money and that it will revolutionise society. OneCoin, according to Ignatova, is the currency for the impoverished that will transform the poor into aristocrats. It turned out to be a massive hoax, making Ignatova the Cryptoqueen. Prior to her abrupt disappearance without a trace and after scamming investors of an estimated $15 billion, Ignatova had expensive champagne parties and purchased opulent houses all over the world. Ignatova is still missing, according to The Times, making it "one of the biggest scams in history." Ignatova joining the F.B.I. and the deceit were kept a secret. Despite the fraud and Europol's most-wanted lists, many investors continue to believe in OneCoin. Johan von Mirbach, the film's director, identified with the narrative on a personal level because Ignatova grew up in Germany not far from his homeland in the Black Forest.
