Dell Alienware are discontinuing their Mobile Connect apps from January 31, 2023, in the US, Canada, and Japan. The apps will stop being available in these countries from November 30, 2022. Additionally, in other countries, the apps will stop being available from July 31, 2022, and be discontinued on November 30, 2022.
Mobile Connect
The Mobile Connect app enabled users to send text messages and phone calls via their PCs. However, Dell Alienware are now discontinuing the app next year. Besides, Dell had recently started moving away from its Mobile Connect app. For instance, Dell did not ship the XPS 13 Plus with a pre-installed Mobile Connect app.
Fortunately, there are alternative methods for users to send text messages and make calls from PCs other than Mobile Connect. For instance, Microsoft's Phone Link is a free app that supports text messages, calls, and mirroring apps. But, some of its features necessitate the use of specific phones. However, the Phone Link app is only compatible with Android devices. Whereas the Dell Mobile connect supported both iOS and Android devices. Furthermore, Mobile Connect performs better than Phone Link as it uses special drivers.
Intel to bring Mobile Connect-like app soon
Moreover, although Dell will discontinue Mobile Connect, Intel plans to introduce similar functionality. As a result, late last year, Intel bought Screenovate, which powered the Dell Mobile Connect app. And, at CES (International Consumer Electronics Show) 2022, Intel revealed Screenovate connecting devices - phones, smart TVs, PCs, etc.
Additionally, Greg Bryant, the executive VP of Intel, said, "Screenovate is going to be a game-changing experience, and I love to see that the PC remains at the center of it all, enabling all of those devices to work seamlessly together." Lastly, the company claims the Screenovate will become available on Intel Evo devices by the end of this year.
