Eenie Meenie Miney Mo: Which new Google phone could be launching in May?

A Google Pixel 6a (Image: The Guardian) It’s the time of the year again and every gadget geek is losing their mind over what Google could be launching this year in May. Rumor has it that Google will be launching numerous phones this year including the Pixel 8 series, the Pixel 7a, and the Pixel Fold.  The last two have already been rumored to land around the middle of the year, most likely in May. However, an unnamed Google phone has been abruptly listed with the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) in the US, which is quite unusual as this generally happens within a few months of launch. 9to5Google spotted the listing and pointed out that the FCC’s confidentiality runs out in six months, which hides images and other information from the public. This reveals that the mystery phone will launch in less than six months.  Having said so, the Google Pixel 8 can be removed from the list of probable mystery phones since the phone will launch in or around October. So we can narrow it down to two possibilities: the Google Pixel 7a or the Google Pixel Fold. But which one is it? Well, only time can say. The FCC listing only reveals the model numbers- G0DZQ, GHL1X, and GWKK3. It also reveals that the phone offers 5G and more specifically mmWave which can be faster than sub-6GHz 5G. However, these are just limited information, while the rest are just speculations based on clues.  One of the clues is that it reveals serial numbers beginning with ‘28291FQHN’ or ‘8251FQHN’, which is quite similar to the serial number ‘2A281FQHN’ that was visible on a recent Pixel 7a leak. Keeping this in mind, the new product could very well be the Google Pixel 7a, but we still cannot rule out the possibility of the Google Pixel Fold. As for the launching date, we can take a shot in the dark at when this phone might land. The fact that it is on the FCC’s database means the new handset will probably be out in less than six months, which is before September.  But if we get more specific, it could be in May during the company’s annual developer conference where products are usually announced.
