A year before he overdosed on heroin in 2007, Eminem believed he had "a good thing going." The rapper requested his daughter Hailie Jade Mathers to cover her ears when he talked about his struggles with addiction in his acceptance speech at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night. Furthermore, the "Lose Yourself" rapper opened his acceptance speech by saying, "I realize what an honor it is right now to be here up here tonight, and what a privilege it is to do the music that I love. Eminem contained, "Music basically saved my life … I’ll keep this as painless as possible. I’m f–king stuttering and s–t. I’m probably not supposed to actually be here tonight because of a couple of reasons.” [caption id="attachment_59719" align="aligncenter" width="1600"]Eminem image credit: koimoi[/caption] Additionally, the "8 Mile" actor, 50, born Marshall Mathers, was formally inducted by his longtime partner Dr. Dre at the 2022 ceremony in Los Angeles. He said, "I almost died from an overdose in 2007, which kind of sucked," before addressing his daughter, age 26, whom he has with his ex-girlfriend Kim Scott. "Hailie, plug your ears. Because drugs were f–king delicious. I thought we had a good thing going on, but I had to go and f–k it all up. Goddamn.” Then the camera switched to his daughter, who shook her head and pursed her lips. Also, Read: Who is Tamara Powell, and what is her net worth? More details Eminem added, "Hold on, I lost my motherf—ing spot. Paul, did I say, I said drugs were delicious, right? And finally, I had to really fight my way through man to try and breakthrough in this music, and I’m so honored and I’m so grateful that I’m even able to be up here doing hip-hop music, man, because I love it so much." On another note, Eminem has always been vocal about his addiction to Vicodin, Valium, Ambien, and methadone, which started when he was filming the semi-autobiographical 2002 movie "8 Mile." One day somebody gave me an Ambien, and it knocked me the f–k out. I was like, ‘I need this all the time." Additionally, he "f–ked up every night" while on tour by 2005. Interestingly, he later admitted to the New York Times, "I used to get pills wherever I could. I was just taking anything that anybody was giving me.” In another tidbit, Eminem weighed 230 pounds when he overdosed in 2007. He told Men's Journal, "When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober." "Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect. It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise.” In 2018, Eminem commemorated ten years of sobriety.
