Since a while ago, Microsoft Word has had an optional dark mode that improves reading and editing at night. It has not been present in the online version, but that is now going to change. Word's dark mode is now available on all devices, not just desktop and mobile apps. Office Insider testers frequently requested a dark mode for the web app, according to Microsoft, and it is now finally available. When the feature is fully implemented, a new "Dark Mode" button will be added to the toolbar's View tab. If your operating system and/or browser are set to dark mode, Microsoft Word will also load by default. Dark mode changes the entire Microsoft Word interface to a dark theme and gives the document a dark background. Similar to dark mode in desktop apps, the document's actual colour data is not altered. By pressing the same button, you can turn off dark mode if you don't like it. There is also a separate toggle for the document's style; use the View ribbon and the "Switch Background" button at the bottom of the screen to quickly see how a document will appear when viewed normally (possibly temporarily rendering you blind). You don't have to toggle the switch button again for each new document you open because the switch button state is also saved to your browser's cookies.
