Google Notifies Android and iOS Users of Approximate Photo Locations

Google has issued a caution to users of Android and iOS regarding a feature from the Google Pictures app. The tool analyses the backgrounds of photos and videos and looks for obvious landmarks and surrounds to determine the location where the image or video was taken. The Google Photos app will continue to make educated guesses using the estimated photo locations function, per a story from The Sun. Any smartphone, whether an iPhone or an Android, will experience this. Although this function is secure to use, Google still cautioned users that some individuals are wary about location monitoring, particularly for pictures taken in private places like a person's home or place of employment. But, once the "Estimate missing locations" feature is activated, Google will keep making estimates using more data. Users will be prompted to choose whether to keep any currently estimated locations or delete them. Google will notify users that deleting them will result in a permanent loss of places before they do so. But, selecting "Keep" ensures that users can continue to use the tool to catalog and locate photos on the app. Google will automatically remove the estimates on or after May 1st, 2023, so iOS and Android customers using Google Photos must make a decision before that date. Users must open the app and touch on their profile image at the top right corner of the screen to access the settings, according to the reports. Under the photo settings menu, select Location, followed by Location Sources. From there, users can choose to estimate missing locations by using a toggle. Edit the image or video by tapping the three-dot overflow menu. Users can then add, pick, and remove a location from the list. Any location linked to a photo or video will be deleted if a location is removed. The software, however, is unable to edit pictures that have a location supplied by your phone's camera. This feature can be modified by users through their own phone settings. This includes the updated design of the folders, photographs, and videos in the library tab. Moreover, a tab for dialogues shared albums, and partner sharing was created. A unique spring cleaning shortcut may now be used to locate your most recent screenshots. The Locked Folders feature, a security feature that enables users to lock their photographs and videos through a password-dependent folder, was introduced by Google Photos in 2022. The function was initially only available on Google Pixel phones.
