According to reports, a new electric car firm that combines Sony and Honda, two well-known Japanese companies, was formally unveiled on Thursday. The electric car will go on sale in 2025 and begin deliveries in the US and Japan in early 2026, respectively, according to Yasuhide Mizuno, CEO of Sony Honda Mobility Inc. Preorders will also start in 2025. In March, Sony Group Corp. and Honda agreed to create the 50-50 joint venture in order to combine Sony's capabilities in imaging, entertainment, networks, and sensors with Honda's in cars, mobility technologies, and sales. The production will be carried out at one of Honda's 12 US factories. But there was still no word on prices, platforms, or the battery type that will be used. However, officials said that this model was unique and was not intended for general sale. Additionally, the production volume was kept a secret. The US was chosen as the debut destination since electric vehicles are already very popular there. Japan, where Honda is from, came in second. Other regions, including Europe, will shortly follow, according to Mizuno, though precise dates have not yet been determined. According to Izumi Kawanishi, a former Sony executive who is currently the chief operating officer at Sony Mobility, the initiative would involve partners. According to AP, increased concern over climate change is likely to increase demand for "zero-emissions" cars worldwide. Honda & Sony Work Together to Create EVs for US Delivery Two years ago, at the CES technology exhibition in Las Vegas, Sony, the company that makes the PlayStation video gaming system and works in the film and music industries, unveiled a concept electric car. Since then, Sony has been eager to partner with a carmaker. Although not as many as some of its rivals, like Ford Motor Company or Nissan Motor, Honda already sells electric vehicles.  The platforms for EVs in North America will be shared by Tokyo-based Honda and General Motors even though the products are not yet available for purchase.
