You have to be really, glaringly honest.” Furthermore, Mayer talked about his past as a "womanizer." He described the label as, “That is what that is. That’s the role I play on the big TV show I didn’t write, but that’s fine. Maybe I had a hand in it or something.” Additionally, the guitarist claimed that he learned to "capitalize" on romantic attraction since he was "made to believe" from a young age that it was an "accident" to get noticed. I was 21 when I wrote that song and I was nostalgic for being 16.” Moreover, the musician said to the audience earlier this year while on a tour that he wishes people would stop asking him to settle down. Mayer quipped at the time, “I’m doing fine because the left side of my bed is just a row of pillows. I sleep next to a row of pillows. That stack of pillows doesn’t resent or hate me or bring me down.” He continued by saying he was doing “good" and that he anticipated meeting "somebody" someday. On stage, Mayer said, "When I do, it will be additive and awesome and great. But until then, I’m going to be just fine.”
