Koei Tecmo, a games company, had its net sales increase to $588.5 million for the entire fiscal year 2022.

The Figures

  • Net sales: $588.5 million (¥78.4 billion), up 7.8% year-on-year
  • Net profit: $231 million (¥30.9 billion), down 12.5% year-on-year
  • Entertainment division sales: $554 million (¥74 billion), up 7.4% year-on-year

The Entertainment division of Koei Tecmo is divided into the following sub-segments: console, online/mobile, events, and merchandise.

  • Console: $282 million (¥37.5 billion), up 15.7% year-over-year
  • Online/Mobile: $265 million (¥35.3 billion), down 0.5% year-over-year
  • Events and Goods: $8.25 million (¥1.1 billion), up 22.2% year-over-year

During the fiscal year 2022, Koei Tecmo sold 9.64 million units internationally, an increase of 18.6% compared to the previous year.

The publisher put published games like Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse and Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key throughout the year. The game developer launched Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Wild Hearts towards the close of the fiscal year.

Both games were priority titles for Koei Tecmo’s third medium-term business plan, according to executive vice president Hisashi Koinuma, who did not reveal sales data for either. The plan, which covers the fiscal years 2022 to 2024, details anticipated sales and priority objectives including a new IP selling five million copies.

Japan accounted for 49% of Koei Tecmo’s entire game sales, which totaled 38.4 billion ($288 million). While international markets contributed 51% ($300 million) or 40 billion.

The games company predicted that sales for the upcoming fiscal year of 2023 will reach 95 billion ($713 million), up 21% from the previous year.
