Lensa AI app creates a stir with sexy "Magic Avatar" images that no one wanted

Lensa AI is a smartphone app that creates digital avatars from selfie photos. It is possible that this is the first time personalized latent diffusion avatar generation has managed to reach a large audience. When Lensa's AI avatar feature debuted, the press focused on the company's reported natural inclination to sexualize depictions of women. Lensa, a Prisma Labs product, debuted in 2018 as a subscription app centered on AI-powered photo editing. The app's popularity increased in late November 2022 as a result of its new "Magic Avatar" feature. Lensa seems to use a personalization training similar method to Dreambooth, and Magic Avatar appears to use the Stable Diffusion image synthesis model under the hood (whose ramifications we recently covered). All training occurs off-device and in the cloud. Women using the app observed that Lensa's Magic Avatar feature created semi-pornographic or unintentionally sexualized pictures in early December. "One of the issues I encountered in the app has been explained by other women online," wrote Zoe Sottile for CNN. Despite the fact that all of the images I uploaded were fully dressed. Lensa's AI tendencies are influenced by the Internet's cultural biases toward sexualized depictions of women. "The man-made unfiltered data. introduced the model to the existing biases of humanity," says Prisma CEO Andrey Usoltsev. Customers post 10-20 selfies from various angles and then wait 20-30 minutes for the results. Based on how closely their face resembles pics of a specific actress, celebrity, or model, different women will see different outcomes.
