Most Hidden iPhone Camera Feature, Know What it is

Magnifier

Many iPhone users are unaware of a unique camera feature in their smartphones – the magnifier tool. It uses iPhone’s built-in camera to zoom in on objects to make them clearer to the users. Interestingly, the magnifier tool has been present in iPhones for years, but still, many users are unaware of it.

Recently, Katarina Mogus, a TikTok “tech guru,” posted a video highlighting the magnifier tool of an iPhone camera. Furthermore, the tool is a part of Apple’s Accessibility features designed to support users’ visual, physical, or hearing needs. As a result, users with visual impairments can use the magnifier tool to read texts or identify objects easily. But, interestingly, the feature is quite helpful to all users.

The Magnifier tool

Apple’s official website defines the tool as follows –

“Magnifier works like a digital magnifying glass. It uses the iPhone’s camera to increase the size of anything users point to, so they can see the details more clearly. First, however, users must use the flash to light the object, adjust filters to help them differentiate colors, or snap a photo to get a static close-up.”

Moreover, the magnifier tool is relatively easy to unlock. Here’s how to do it –

  • Go to the Settings app on the iPhone
  • Scroll to Accessibility and open it
  • Then, open Guided Access present at the bottom of that page and turn it on
  • Go back to the Accessibility settings page
  • Tap on Accessibility Shortcuts and select Magnifier

To open the Magnifier tool, users must triple-tap on their iPhone’s display. Doing so will launch a version of the camera app that’s very zoomed-in.

Additionally, users can control and adjust the zoom level via a slider at the bottom of the page. Besides that, they can also choose to take still images with the magnifier tool. Hence, they don’t have to keep holding the phone over a text to read it. In addition, the color and brightness of the image the users are viewing are adjustable. Plus, users can also turn on the flash when using the feature in the dark.

What’s more

Apple’s aim in introducing the Accessibility features is to help and support mentally or physically impaired users. But, they are helpful to all users in general. Besides Magnifier, iOS has other Accessibility features, including VoiceOver and Assistive Touch.
