OpenAI Is Diving Into Internet Search But Google Isn’t Going Anywhere

As we all know Google has been the go-to search engine, giving solutions to a great many needs for quite a long time now. However, with the rise of AI chatbots, the future dominance of Google in this space is not entirely certain. Recent reports have discovered that OpenAI, the dominant AI research laboratory, is currently making its web search product. As indicated by an anonymous source familiar with the project, OpenAI's web search product is supposed to be partly powered by Bing. This has led to the speculation that it could turn into an immediate opponent to Google, which has held control of web search since the early 2000s. Notwithstanding, specialists propose that OpenAI's challenge to Google's dominance will likely be gradual. Also Read: Android 15’s First Developer Preview: Enhancements, Privacy, and More! Ed Watal, the man behind Intellibus and a professor of artificial intelligence at New York College, believes that Google will keep on dominating web search for a long time to come. However, he recognizes that similarly as Google outperformed Yahoo and other search engines previously, it is possible for Google to be dethroned in the end. "There should be a future search engine, always," Watal said, although he finds it hard to foresee when that might happen. OpenAI isn't the first AI research laboratory to explore launching a web search product. Perplexity.ai, launched in August 2022, concentrates on search-based questions rather than conversational responses like previously evolved AI systems. In spite of its moderately low popularity compared to Google, perplexity.ai has been esteemed at around $520 million since its launch. Microsoft has also introduced an AI-supported search engine through its Copilot chatbot, which has gained over 100 million daily active users. Unlike the free version of OpenAI's ChatGPT, Copilot is directly connected to the internet and provides up-to-date information in its responses. Despite OpenAI's success with ChatGPT, which has gained approximately 100 million monthly users in just two months, professionals accept that OpenAI has just a slight possibility of leaving a mark on Google's search base. The ongoing business models intensely favour Google, which produces revenue from different kinds of questions. To outperform Google, AI systems will need to appeal to a broad audience and be accessible. OpenAI's strength lies in its immediate, conversational, nuanced, and personal responses, giving the organization a benefit. Nonetheless, specialists alert that OpenAI and other AI laboratories face a battle if they seek to come out on top. As AI technology keeps on evolving, the fight for dominance in web search will escalate. OpenAI and other AI research laboratories should overcome the benefits of Google's tremendous user base and economies of scale. While OpenAI's entrance into web search may not promptly compromise Google's dominance, it means the continuous development of the search landscape and the potential for a future where new players redefine the way we search for data.
