PS5 Games We're Most Looking Forward To In 2023

After a big year with games like God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West, 2023 has a lot to live up to. The first half of the year will be driven by third-party exclusives and the release of the PlayStation VR2, while the second half will be driven by yet another sequel to a critically acclaimed PS4 game. The competition between Xbox and Nintendo looks like it will only get tougher next year, so Sony will need to make a lot of great PS5-only games to stay in the game. Before the new year, we've put together a list of the 2023 PS5-only games you should watch. Only games with set release dates are on this list, so don't look for Marvel's Wolverine, Death Stranding 2, or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake. Still, these seven games, from Forspoken to Stellar Blade, should offer a lot of different kinds of fun on PS5 next year. January 24 — Spoken Forspoken was one of the first games we heard about that was only available on the PS5, and we won't have to wait too much longer to play it. In this magic-based action RPG, Ella Bulinska plays Frey, a girl from New York who is whisked away to the magical world of Athia. Even though there are some worries about the story, the game looks like a lot of fun with its colorful magic-based combat and fast-paced exploration. Even though the full game doesn't come out until January 24, we can play a demo of Forspoken right now on the PlayStation Store. A Letter to the Future — January 31 Season: A Letter to the Future seems to be the most relaxing PlayStation-only game coming out soon. It looks like a cozy game about biking around, recording sounds, and taking pictures of a beautiful world that's about to end, so it could be one of the first indie darlings of 2023. The development of Season: A Letter to the Future has been rough, with reports of workplace abuse coming out in the middle of its development. If that doesn't bother you and the idea is interesting enough, you might want to try out the demo on the PlayStation Store before the game comes out on January 31. Next Spring might seem a little less busy for PS5 owners, but on February 22, Sony will release the PlayStation VR2. Horizon Call of the Mountain, a first-person VR game where players can explore the dystopian, sci-fi world of Horizon and fight enemies with cybernetic parts, is the crown jewel of its launch lineup. There are a lot of other PlayStation VR2 launch games to look forward to, like the puzzle game Fantavision 202X, which is a sequel to a PS2 cult classic, and The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, which is like Until Dawn: Rush of Blood but on rails. Still, Horizon Call of the Mountain is the only PlayStation VR2 game we know of for PS5 that you have to play. It has great graphics and was made by a first-party developer. Final Fantasy XVI comes out on June 22 The next main Final Fantasy game will only be available on PlayStation when it comes out, and it looks great. In Final Fantasy XVI, a man named Clive is out for revenge in the war-torn world of Valisthea. He can call on Eikons, which are like summons from the Final Fantasy series, to help him fight. This entry looks darker than previous mainline Final Fantasy games. It plays up the dark fantasy and political turmoil hooks that made Game of Thrones so popular. It also looks like its real-time action RPG gameplay will be a lot of fun, so we can't wait for Final Fantasy XVI to come out on June 22. Fall 2023: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the most anticipated first-party PS5 game coming out between now and 2023. Its predecessor, which came out in 2018, is one of the most fun superhero games ever made because it's fun to swing around New York as Spider-Man. Its sequel, which comes out in 2020 and focuses on Miles Morales, is just as fun but has a more contained and emotional story. We can't wait to see what Insomniac Games does with new characters like Kraven the Hunter and Venom and a new Spider-Man game where both Peter and Miles can be played. When it comes out in the fall of 2023, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is likely to be the best PS5 game of the year. Pacific Drive – To Be Announced Pacific Drive is a supernatural roguelike survival game that developer Ironwood Studios calls a "road-like." Players drive through the Pacific Northwest and try to stay alive through storms and supernatural dangers while constantly upgrading their car. Forza Motorsport will have high-quality racing gameplay on Xbox, but Pacific Drive is having a lot more fun with what a game about driving a car can be. We're keeping an eye on Pacific Drive going into 2023, even though it doesn't yet have a specific release date or window within next year. This is because it has a weird but charming premise. Stellar Blade — TBA Stellar Blade is a fast-paced action game that has made a big impression in the livestreams where PlayStation games were announced. It's a post-apocalyptic science fiction game about a girl named Eve who is trying to stop aliens from taking over the Earth. Stellar Blade looks like it will satisfy fans of action games like those made by PlatinumGames by giving them the same kind of intense combat. It also has over-the-top characters and a world design that fans of manga and anime will like. Stellar Blade will be available for PS5 sometime in 2023, but we don't know when exactly.
