Ring's Newest Camera Wants to Drive With You in 2023

Ring debuted a new dashcam at CES 2023, which is designed to monitor your vehicle while you're driving. The Ring Car Cam features dual-facing cameras that can screen both the inside and outside of the vehicle. The Ring Car Cam will retail for $250, or $200 for a limited period of time during the preorder period. This is far more expensive than many dashcams currently on the market. The built-in connectivity and added Ring features may make the price worthwhile. According to Josh Roth, Ring's chief technology officer, the company's founder's email is on the box of every device, and one of the products he's most frequently asked about is one to protect the car. The Ring Car Cam can record motion-alert clips inside and outside the vehicle. When you're parked nearby, it simply plugs into your car's OBD-II port and integrates into your home's network via Wi-Fi. You'll be able to see footage directly from the Ring app from there. End-to-end encryption serves to protect any private footage. Because of the speaker and microphone, you may also use your phone to communicate with whoever is in the vehicle. The device is billed as a "dashcam with a face," but it sends alerts whenever anyone opens the door. Simply say, "Alexa, record," and the camera will record for several minutes. By rolling a physical privacy shutter across the lens, you can also disable the microphone and the interior-facing camera. In an emergency, Ring has the authority to exchange user footage with law enforcement even without the user's consent. According to the company, 76% of adult commuters in the United States rely on their vehicle to get to and from work. According to Ring, a vehicle was stolen every 39 seconds in the United States in 2020. However, carcam is not compatible with every vehicle, and Ring provides a partial list of incompatibilities on its website. This includes the Acura MDX from 2006 to 2022, the Honda CR-V from 2006 to 2016, and the Mercedes GLE and GLC crossovers.
