Scarlett Johansson Takes Legal Action Against AI App

An AI-generated version of Scarlett Johansson’s voice appeared in an online ad without her consent. Scarlett Johansson is suing an AI app developer for utilizing her name and likeness in an online advertisement. The advertisement showcased an AI-generated rendition of Johansson's voice and was for an Artificial Intelligence image editor named Lisa AI: 90s Yearbook & Avatar. Variety claimed that the 22-second commercial Ad had Johansson saying, “What’s up guys? It’s Scarlett, and I want you to come with me.” while filming Black Widow behind the scenes. However, as the advertisement moves away from Johansson, an artificial intelligence voice designed to resemble the actress declares, “It’s not limited to avatars only. You can also create images with texts and even your Artificial Intelligence videos. I think you shouldn’t miss it.”

What The AI Software Convert Said:

Convert Software, the company that created the program put text at the very bottom of the advertisement that says, "Images created by Lisa AI." This individual is unrelated to it at all. Variety is informed by Johansson's representatives that the actress never served as an app spokeswoman and that Kevin Yorn, her lawyer, “handled the situation in a legal capacity.” Read More- 6 Free AI Tools to Generate Webpage Summaries "These are not things we take lightly. We will handle it with all available legal options. And also in accordance with our standard procedure in similar situations, Yorn stated in a statement to Variety. When The Verge asked Yorn and Convert Software for comment regarding the specifics of the lawsuit, neither company answered.

Conclusion

We will undoubtedly see more situations like these in the future as AI becomes ever more widely available. The use of voice cloning by musicians to sound like Drake launching a new song or Johnny Cash covering Taylor Swift is already a problem. And also deepfake technology allows Tom Hanks' AI-generated image to appear in an advertisement for a dental plan without his permission.
