Twitter Implements New Policies to Label and Restrict Hateful Tweets

source: Droid Life Twitter has announced new measures aimed at combating hate speech on the platform. The measures include labeling tweets that are deemed to contain hateful content, as well as restricting the visibility of accounts that regularly engage in such behavior.

Labeling Hateful Tweets

Twitter's new policy will see certain tweets labeled with a warning that they contain content that violates the platform's rules on hate speech. The warning will appear as a gray box underneath the tweet and will inform users that the tweet contains hateful content. Users will have the option to view or hide the tweet, but will not be able to like, retweet, or reply to it.

Restricting Shadowbans

In addition to labeling tweets, Twitter will also be restricting the visibility of accounts that regularly engage in hate speech. This will be done by limiting the visibility of their tweets, so they will not appear in search results, hashtags, or trending topics. This measure will effectively shadowban the accounts, making it more difficult for them to spread their message and potentially limiting the harm they can do on the platform. User Feedback

While the new measures have been welcomed by some users and organizations as a step in the right direction, others have expressed concern about the potential for the policies to be used to silence voices that Twitter disagrees with. Some have also noted that the policy may not be effective in combating hate speech, as it may simply drive such behavior underground. Twitter's new policies are a response to growing concerns about hate speech and harassment on the platform. While the measures have been welcomed by some, there are concerns that the policies may be used to stifle free speech or may not be effective in combating hate speech. It remains to be seen how the policies will be implemented and enforced, but they represent a significant effort by Twitter to make the platform a safer and more inclusive space.
