UN States That The Pledge To Reduce Emission Is Nowhere Near Its Target

Executive secretary of U.N. Climate Change, Simon Stiell states, “We are still nowhere near the scale and pace of emission reductions required to put us on track toward a 1.5 degrees Celsius world.” The analysis comes to light with the COP27 climate change summit that is next month in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt. The Paris agreement which was made in 2015 will emerge greatly in the talks as the countries are not doing much to keep the temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of this century. The U.N stated in an assessment that “the combined climate pledges of 193 Parties under the Paris Agreement could put the world on track for around 2.5 degrees Celsius of warming by the end of the century.”   The main purpose of the Paris accord is to regulate global warming, “to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.” In a new report presented by UN Climate Change, emissions would go up by 10.6% by 2030 in comparison to 2010. It stated, “Last year’s analysis showed projected emissions would continue to increase beyond 2030.” UN States That The Pledge To Reduce Emission Is Nowhere Near Its Target “However, this year’s analysis shows that while emissions are no longer increasing after 2030, they are still not demonstrating the rapid downward trend science says is necessary this decade.” Simon Stiell in a statement on Wednesday mentioned, “We are still nowhere near the scale and pace of emission reductions required to put us on track toward a 1.5 degrees Celsius world.” “To keep this goal alive, national governments need to strengthen their climate action plans now and implement them in the next eight years.” COP26 president, Alok Sharma stated that it was “critical that we do everything within our means to keep 1.5C in reach.”
