Today, YouTube announced that it will launch a new program that lets students earn college credit in partnership with Arizona State University and educational video company Crash Course. According to the company, which is owned by Google, the new program, which is called College Foundations, is made to make it easy and cheap to get college credit. Students can enroll in four courses that are transferable and start on March 7, 2023, beginning today. Applications and a minimum grade point average are not necessary to enroll in the program. Real World College Math, Intro to Human Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, and US History to 1865 are among the common first-year college courses included. By January 2025, the program is expected to offer 12 courses, allowing students to earn college credit for their entire first year. If a student chooses to enroll and begin their coursework, they must pay a $25 fee and a $400 fee to receive college credit for each course. A $50 discount will be offered to those who sign up before March 7th. Students can take courses as often as they need to until they are satisfied with their grades. After that, the credit can be used at Arizona State University-accredited institutions. College Foundations is an expansion of the existing Study Hall partnership between YouTube, Arizona State University, and Crash Course, an educational channel founded by John and Hank Green with more than 14 million subscribers. In a blog post, the company stated, "The lessons combine ASU's academic excellence with Crash Courses' compelling storytelling — all on YouTube's wide-reaching platform." These lessons were developed and taught by the same faculty members who conduct research and teach students on ASU's campuses. Students can begin by enrolling in a course of their choice and beginning to earn credit after completing a free sneak peek. You can get assistance with assignments by contacting a success coach via email once you are enrolled in a course. You can finish your coursework whenever it works best for you, but most of them have weekly due dates. Some instructors offer optional office hours if you want more support. For quite some time, YouTube has been the home of educational content. Now, users can earn college credits, putting them on a direct path to formal education and expanding this focus even further. The announcement comes as Courses, a feature that aims to provide structured learning experiences on YouTube in India, was recently launched. The video app will allow teachers to publish and organize their videos, as well as provide text reading materials and questions.
