In the world of smartphones, Apple has long been a technological innovator. But lately, one of its goals has been to increase its independence and lessen its dependency on businesses like Qualcomm or Broadcom.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst, reveals that the company stopped producing Wi-Fi chips. Reports claim that Apple was allegedly working on its own Wi-Fi chip with a 2024 release date and 5G chips for use in their devices.
Apple has decided to postpone its plans to develop its own hardware components. As per reports, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the business has paused the development of its Wi-Fi chip, which was scheduled to appear in 2024, due to "insufficient resources" being diverted toward the 3nm processor for future iPhones.
Apple's primary objective is to unify all chips into a single solution.
The analysis by Kuo also sheds light on Apple's overarching objective. The ideal system would have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular chips.

In addition to radio-frequency chips and chips for wireless charging, Apple is presently developing a 5G cellular modem to take Qualcomm's place. Qualcomm currently supplies Apple with all of these components.
According to a Phone Arena post, this information indicates that Broadcom will continue to be Apple's Wi-Fi chip supplier. This is a significant departure from the original strategy, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, which called for the introduction of a new Wi-Fi + Bluetooth processor for iPhones by 2025 in order to start moving away from Broadcom components.

What Apple's plans are for the combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth combo chip are still unknown, despite the fact that the development of the Wi-Fi chip has been stopped.
However, it is evident that Apple wants to integrate Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular processors into a single product and gain more independence. For this reason, the company has been developing its own 5G chips to cut ties with Qualcomm.

Although the current changes might make it more challenging, Apple still has this as a top priority. At this time, Apple will hold off on creating its own Wi-Fi chip until Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 are ready as standards before releasing a product.
This will be dangerous given the rapidly evolving Wi-Fi standards because the business will have to make sure its chip complies with the most recent requirements.
The processor was anticipated to be a huge move for Apple as it would greatly enhance the iPhone's battery and audio capabilities. But with Apple stopping the project, it appears Broadcom will continue to play a significant role in the creation of the iPhone.
With Apple's Wi-Fi chip development on hold for the foreseeable future, Broadcom will continue to be Apple's source for Wi-Fi chips. Apple's decision to discontinue the project probably had some justification, but in the end, it thwarted the company's efforts to achieve independence.
