Bob Dylan Apologizes For Signing Books With A Handwriting Machine

Despite the fact that his new book was advertised as being "hand-signed," Bob Dylan has revealed that he used an autopen to sign it. Dylan fans who paid $599 for the limited-edition book, The Philosophy of Modern Song, written by the musician and published by Simon & Schuster, began to grow suspicious when they noticed that the books' signatures weren't just similar, but exactly the same. The use of an autopen, a device that can mimic a person's signature and save them many hours of work while also reducing any hand cramps, was quickly revealed by the 81-year-old music great. Dylan has acknowledged using an autopen and apologized on Facebook, providing an intriguing justification for why he ultimately decided to use a machine rather than his own hand to sign the 900 books. Over the years, I've personally signed each and every art print, and there has never been a problem, stated Dylan. "However, in 2019 I experienced severe vertigo, which persisted through the epidemic years." It takes a staff of five working in close quarters with me to help facilitate these signing sessions. Therefore, it was impossible to sign anything during the pandemic, and the vertigo didn't help. A suggestion to use an autopen was made to me along with the guarantee that this kind of thing is done "all the time" in the literary and artistic realms as I faced impending contractual deadlines. It was a bad decision to use a machine, and I want to make it right now. To do just that, I'm collaborating with Simon & Schuster and my gallery partners. Celebrities, politicians, and other notable individuals have used the device since it was initially patented in the United States more than 200 years ago. Thomas Jefferson and Lyndon B. Johnson are two American presidents who are known to have used it while in office, and in 2011, Barack Obama became the first to sign legislation with an autopen-generated signature.
