According to King County court records, a Washington man who savagely murdered his half-sister and packed her severed body parts in a bag in 2016 has finally been found guilty. On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, a jury found David Haggard, 48, responsible for the brutal murder of his half-sister Jamie Haggard, 27, on June 9, 2016. Around June 17, Jamie's family members reported her missing after not hearing from her for several days. In accordance with the court records, on May 10, 2018, authorities in Snohomish County made a horrifying discovery when they discovered Jamie's dismembered and partially burned remains stuffed in a suitcase by the side of the road. After speaking with several family members and reviewing the phone records, the detectives came to the conclusion that David and Jamie were cohabitating at the time of her demise. According to Fox News, both of them were drug addicts who heavily relied on heroin and meth. They also had a tumultuous relationship. To support her heroin addiction, Jamie sold her prescription medications. Additionally, David had previously assaulted her and made death threats. Jamie frequently confided in her partner and other people that she worried for her life and that David would kill her. Days before she passed away, David and Jamie got into a fierce disagreement about their house, and the latter even ejected her from the property. Once she arrived home, they started fighting verbally once more, but it eventually got violent. On the morning of June 9, 2016, Jamie went back to the house to advise David to leave. While they were together, his girlfriend departed to drop her son off at school. Later that day, David's girlfriend came back, but Jamie was nowhere to be found. She left the house, according to David, and he hasn't seen her since. According to a police report, David seldom made fires, so when his girlfriend observed him blazing one in the garden, she thought something was strange. Later on, the bones of the 27-year-old were discovered nearby. David never did anything or said anything that would have worried his family about Jamie going missing. He occasionally pretended to be anxious. "On two separate occasions, based on tips, King County Major Crimes detectives dug up the yard of the Kenmore house Jamie and her brother shared. Jamie’s body was not found during those searches," the King County Sheriff's Office said in a 2019 Facebook post. "On May 10, 2018, Jamie’s burnt and dismembered remains were found in a suitcase off the shoulder of a road in Snohomish County." Later that day, David's girlfriend came back, but Jamie was nowhere to be found. She left the house, according to David, and he hasn't seen her since. Back in 2016, he was already imprisoned on an unrelated arson allegation. According to court records, he had also previously been accused of theft of a vehicle, illegal possession of a firearm, and other offenses between 1995 and 2015.
