Authorities claim that a seasoned Georgia school administrator had a sexual contact with a student and served alcohol to minors at a Halloween party.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported on Thursday that Rachelle Louise Terry, 43, had been detained on a number of accusations.
According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, the Terry investigation got underway on November 9 after the superintendent alerted the sheriff's office to the alcohol-fueled party involving minors. Terry has worked for the Murray County school system for more than 20 years.
“I believe there had been a parental complaint,” Murray County Sheriff Jimmy Davenport told the newspaper.
According to the GBI's news release, Terry is accused of one case of statutory rape, two counts of child molestation, and ten counts of providing alcohol to minors during the Halloween party.
The sheriff's office said that Terry was still being held at the county jail as of Sunday afternoon.
According to the school system, Terry has been placed on paid administrative leave. The district was "shocked and saddened" about the criminal charges, a school spokesperson told the media outlet.
“These are extremely serious charges,” the spokesperson said. “The safety and well-being of our students are always a top priority for the Murray County School.”
According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, Terry is the director of federal programs and makes $110,000 annually.
Since the sheriff's office supplies safety officers to the school system, Davenport informed the newspaper that the sheriff's office turned the investigation over to the Conasauga District Attorney's Office.
