Google Workspace is introducing a major change to its Gmail service, bringing a new look and improved functionality to the popular email platform. The updated Gmail will now feature video conferencing and chat options in addition to its core email services, providing users with a comprehensive Google Workspace experience.
The new look Gmail will be updated by default for all users, with no option to revert to the previous user interface. The change, first announced in February 2022, is part of Google Workspace's effort to integrate its services, including Meet and Chat, into Gmail.
In November 2022, Gmail users were given a chance to test the new look, but could still switch back to the original view. However, starting today, this will no longer be an option and users will be fixed to the new design. While the new layout may take some getting used to, Gmail users will still see emails as the centerpiece, but slightly shifted to the right to make room for a new left-side sidebar that provides quick links to Chat, Meet, and Spaces.

Additionally, Gmail now features a new right-side sidebar that provides shortcuts to other Google services, such as Calendar, Tasks, and Keep, without the need to open separate tabs or windows. The update also brings all notifications into one place, making it easier for users to see and respond to messages or chats.

The new-look Gmail will be available to all Google Workspace users, excluding Google Workspace Essentials customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers. With this update, Google Workspace is aiming to offer its users a seamless, integrated experience that combines email, video conferencing, and chat in one convenient location.
