Google's Head of Augmented Reality Software Resigns Due to "Unstable Commitment and Vision"

(Image credit- Android Central) Mark Lucovsky, Google's head of operating system and software platforms for augmented and mixed reality devices, has departed the company following months of turbulence for the company's mixed reality projects and team. Though it's not obvious whose leadership changes he's referring to specifically, it seems feasible or perhaps likely that he's referring to Clay Bavor's recent resignation, who had been in charge of Google's XR effort since 2015. In March of this year, Bavor quit the company altogether. When it tested Google Glass with developers in 2013, Google was one of the forerunners of mass-market augmented reality, but lately, things have been a bit rough. Glass was killed by the corporation, revived as an enterprise-only product, and then killed once more. Lucovsky's Contribution

Lucovsky, who volunteered to work on Microsoft's Windows NT OS in the 1990s, has had a significant impact on the computer industry throughout his career. He led Facebook's effort to develop a new operating system for AR glasses, but in 2021 he departed from the company over issues with platform management. He had hardly been in charge of Google's XR operating system project for two months when he made his most recent statement. Moreover,  the shortness of his stay there may have been caused by Google's history of regularly canceling initiatives and perceived lack of commitment. According to a report, Google has turned its emphasis to "creating software platforms for AR that it hopes to license to other manufacturers building headsets." For instance, it has been developing an XR platform for the next Samsung product that runs on Android.
