How to Make iPhone Screenshots Do More

We all use our iPhones to take screenshots. You might want to keep receipts for the argument you're having, share an Instagram post outside of the app, or you might have accidentally taken a screenshot for the millionth time. For most iPhone users, taking screenshots is second nature for whatever reason. But screenshots are more complex than you might imagine. Let's explore how screenshots function on your iPhone.

Taking a screenshot on an iPhone

On your iPhone, you probably already know how to take a screenshot, but just in case, here are the fundamentals: Simply pressing the Volume Up and Side buttons together will snap a screenshot. To take a screenshot on an iPhone that still has a Home button, simultaneously press and release the Power and Home buttons. Using options in the Accessibility menu, you can also set up your device to take screenshots in different ways. For instance, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap to enable taking screenshots by quickly tapping the back of your phone twice or three times. iPhone 14 When you took a screenshot on iOS in the past, all you saw was a flash (and, if your sound was on, hear that iconic camera shutter). You would need to open the Photos app if you wanted to see your screenshot. However, since iOS 11, a screenshot preview has been seen in the lower-left corner of the screen for each image you take. This popup greatly enhances the utility of the screenshot process and goes much beyond a quick glance at what you got. The thumbnail previews remain visible for approximately five seconds before vanishing on their own. You can swipe them away right away if you can't wait that long. However, tapping the preview will cause it to expand into the screenshot editor (more on that later). iPhone-13-May-Launch-on-September-14 These are the fundamentals relating to the thumbnail previews, although there is more going on than is immediately apparent. The second screenshot will be added on top of the first if you take it while the thumbnail is still visible. You may repeat this as much as you like, and the previews will keep piling up until you stop taking screenshots and the five seconds has passed (or you swipe them away). You can mark up the screenshot using the various tools at the bottom of the screen. You have the pen, highlighter, marker, eraser, lasso, ruler (which serves as a digital straight edge), and a color selector, all of which are arranged from left to right.
