Have an outdated Chromecast laying around after purchasing a new streaming device or Chromecast?
Create a digital picture frame for yourself or a family member instead of throwing it in a drawer and forgetting about it.
Be honest for a moment. A specialized market for products, digital picture frames have simply never gained traction the way you might anticipate. On paper, it makes a wonderful present, especially for elderly and distant family members. You purchase it, set it up for them, and keep them informed with updates such as baby photographs and other pleasantries.

In actuality, they frequently wind up being left in the box, set up but ignored, or lying on a side table, permanently off. It comes down to this, despite the fact that I have really strong feelings about how terrible of a gift dedicated digital picture frames are and how fantastic a replacement for digital picture frames the Chromecast is.
The Chromecast may be used for things other than viewing images, such as watching YouTube videos, and is simple to remotely update with new pictures. It also automatically upgrades its firmware. Even older Chromecast models are excellent for watching brief videos and photo slideshows.
Would I want a Chromecast from the first generation to be my only streaming device? No, not today. You really can't beat it, though, for sticking on your grandmother's TV so she can just click the input button to go from her cable box to the Chromecast whenever she wants to see photographs of her grandchildren.
There is therefore no better time than the present to set up an old Chromecast to display images or even function as a digital art frame too if you have an older Chromecast collecting dust or you're searching for an excuse to update the one you have.
