The Water Lock feature on Apple Watches prevents you from accidently touching the watch display and breaking the touch screen by momentarily locking the screen and helping to dry the speaker once you are away from any water exposure.
According to
Apple Support, Water Lock starts working when you begin any water-based exercise, like swimming or surfing. And when you begin a scuba dive while wearing your Apple Watch Ultra, it turns on.
However, users can easily follow these steps for manual setting when using the Water Lock feature:
- As soon as your watch face or an app is visible, touch and hold the bottom of the screen. When Control Center appears, swipe up.
- Control Center is accessible from any screen.Simply press the Water Lock button. When the feature is activated, the Water Lock icon shows at the top of the watch face.
- Turn the Digital Crown until a sound is heard to release water.
- To turn it off, crank the Digital Crown until the blue water drop completely fills the gray circle.
If your Apple Watch is running watchOS 8 or an earlier version, you can just rotate the Digital Crown rather than pressing it, according to
Business Insider.
You can still scroll with the Digital Crown to check your alerts as they arrive even while you are unable to type out a response. Users must use Siri if they want to phone or text someone.
