Husband kills hospital CEO wife before shooting himself in Florida

According to various publications, in what investigators suspect to be a murder-suicide, a devoted hospital CEO was shot to death by her husband at the couple's Coral Gables, Florida, home. Antonio Mazzorana, 62, fatally shot his wife Maria Cristina Jimenez, 61, before shooting himself. Furthermore, Jimenez served as the CEO of Coral Gables Hospital and put in more than 35 years of service. In addition, she was elevated to CEO in 2017. Additionally, the couple was discovered dead in the master bedroom, according to information from law enforcement officials cited by the Miami Herald. Jimenez was allegedly murdered while she slept. Police reported that a suicide note with a possible explanation was also found in the couple's kitchen. However, the explanation was kept private. According to the site, Mazzorana struggled with mental health concerns and feared unemployment following December. The Herald reported he also had a medical job, though it was unclear exactly what he did. Moreover, the news of the fatalities, according to Mazzorana's younger brother, caught the family off guard. Ivan Mazzorana stated, "I could not believe what I was hearing, but my mind took me to a place that is sad beyond all comprehension." He added, "Cristina was a lovely soul. She was friendly to everyone she met and was very knowledgeable and respected by her peers. I just did not see any issues with them. It is very difficult. Another family is hurting." According to Rebecca Sosa, a former Miami-Dade County commissioner, the Florida hospital CEO was well-liked. Sosa told the Herald, "Anyone who would call Cristina to help someone, she would always be there."
