Innovative display screens that will leave you speechless

The Display Week conference this month was filled with a lot of surprises. For those unaware, Display Week is an annual event where companies showcase their unique displays. Additionally, modern-day gadget displays have evolved a lot, from curved and rollable to sliding and foldable. But now, this month's Display Week left everyone speechless with its presentation of never-before-seen display screens.  Moreover, single-fold displays evolved to two-fold displays. In addition, some screens roll out to expand outwards and even 360-degree displays. These innovative designs are probably not something people might use, but they are nonetheless there for manufacturers to choose from. Here are some of the most exciting display screens -

LG's 360-degree OLED display

LG showcased a foldable 8-inch OLED touchscreen. Interestingly, it can fold both inwards and outwards, serving as an inner and outer screen. In addition, when folded out, it becomes a single large screen. The company used a unique folding technique that reduces the crease to create this fantastic display screen.  LG’s 360-degree OLED display Until now, all the folding OLED screens have had additional layers added or a mechanical hinge to increase durability in one specific direction. However, LG's new panel folding inwards and outwards is proof that a single, foldable OLED touchscreen is possible. Moreover, it can transform devices possessing these display screens from standard smartphones to a tablet.  Additionally, LG claims its display has such durability that it can fold up to 200,000 times. Plus, the OLED display also doesn't spoil even when dropped in a bag while it's folded all the way around. LG's new 360-degree OLED display has a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. Interestingly, it is quite similar to the TCL's 360-degree Ultra Flec concept foldable that came out earlier in 2022.

LG's 17-inch foldable OLED laptop

LG's 17-inch foldable OLED laptop  Most importantly, LG's OLED phone/tablet concept was not the only intriguing thing in this month's Display Week. The company also showcased a 17-inch foldable OLED laptop, in which the clamshell design opens out to become a single, big folding screen.

Samsung Flex G and Flex S

Samsung Flex G and Flex S The Samsung Flex G and Flex S were already previously showcased at the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022. Additionally, they both feature multi-fold display panels. The Flex G folds not once but twice, similar to a brochure. Samsung claims that the tri-fold design makes Flex G more durable. Likewise, the Flex S also folds twice but like a map, "creating a double curve, resembling letter S." The company believes that users can use the three display screens independently or together like this, like using multiple desktops. Besides that, Samsung also showcased sliding handsets with display screes that rolled out horizontally or vertically.

Samsung foldable OLED gaming display

Samsung also displayed a foldable screen that enables gamers to attach controllers at both ends. As a result, gamers can get a larger screen, which folds up easily for transport. Additionally, gamers can hold the device vertically, so the screen is on top, and the controller is below. Besides that, Samsung also showcased its first 240Hz OLED laptop display for gamers. It is set to launch later this year in high-end gaming laptops like the new Razer Blade 15.

Conclusion

No doubt, LG's 360-degree OLED display is the top contender, but one cannot forget about Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 3. The latter folds out into a tablet with its screen folding inwards for more protection. Additionally, people have been showcasing the concept of rollable display screens for the last few years. However, it hasn't yet appeared on any of the commercial phones. In any case, whether the display screens fold in, out, or roll up or sideways, it is still a waiting game to see them transform into a final product.
