iPhone 16 Pro Models to Get Major Camera Upgrade with Stacked Sensor Design, Analyst Says

The 48-megapixel rear camera lens in this year's entry-level iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models is anticipated to have a stacked CMOS image sensor (CIS) architecture that can catch more light. Apple probably wouldn't have implemented the new sensor design across all iPhone 15 models this year due to production yield concerns, and even though Sony's high-end CIS capacity is anticipated to remain constrained through 2024, Apple has already secured the majority of Sony's orders. Kuo claims that Will Semi, a rival supplier, will gain from Sony's limited capacity by receiving more orders from Chinese smartphone companies for high-end CIS. Periscope telephoto lenses might be available for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max in 2024. Due to size restrictions, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only smartphone in 2023 that uses the new camera technology.

What's Happening With iPhone 16's Upgraded High-End Camera

For the other iPhone 15 versions, according to Kuo, Apple rejected the stacked camera sensor due to concerns with production yield. Through 2024, it is expected to be constrained. Previous speculations suggested that in addition to its 48MP sensor, the iPhone 16 Pro Max would include enhanced telephoto and ultra-wide lenses. If Kuo's predictions about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro are accurate in a year, we'll know. Furthermore, we'll have to wait and see if Apple makes any additional improvements to the lenses or just some internal model modifications. A new A17 Bionic CPU, based on TSMC's 3nm process, is also expected to be released by the iPhone maker. In comparison to other models, the new cell phones will ensure speedier performance and tried-and-true efficiency. In addition to having a potent GPU and CPU, Apple may have seen that the future lineup needs a greater battery life from a distance.
