iPhone Users with Google Fi May Now Access 5G

Image Source:  If you've been bold enough to use Google Fi with an iPhone, your experience is going to improve significantly, as Google revealed on Wednesday that you may now utilize 5G instead of LTE (via 9to5Google). Using 5G with your iPhone requires iOS 16.4, which was published earlier this week, according to Google's website. (But Fi’s 5G capability was found during the 16.4 beta process.) You must also have an iPhone 12 or later, as previous iPhones do not support 5G. Nevertheless, turning it on once you've upgraded your phone is simple: Choose "5G Auto" in Settings > Cellular Data Options > Calls and Data. You'll get instant access to T-5G Mobile's network. It's hardly surprising that Fi's 5G service took so long to reach iPhones. While the service has been available for Apple devices since 2018, the user experience has always been subpar when compared to utilizing the carrier with an Android device. iPhone customers had to wait years for Fi's built-in VPN and eSIM, while ordinary messaging requires manually entering MMS settings. Yet, if you have an iPhone and want to use Fi as your primary carrier (or as a secondary one that you can turn on and off whenever you want), the advent of 5G may make it an even better option.
