Gboard is the latest app to pay special attention to larger tablet screens. It aims to make typing on larger screens a little easier. This year, Google has made significant efforts to improve tablet performance, such as with the release of Android 12L.
In landscape mode, Gboard v12.3 beta makes the keyboard and its keys taller. Typing on the keys becomes easier now that they are in the shape of narrower and taller rectangles. Gboard simply widens the standard portrait mode keyboard for landscape use.
Gboard's keyboard now resembles a computer keyboard by 60%. With key widths comparable to a physical keyboard, there are dedicated keys for Tab, Caps Lock, and Shift. The emoji button has grown in size and height, but it remains on the left, next to the space bar.
The software update is rolling out now to beta testers, but you can jump the queue and sideload the update from APKMirror.
