LG To Unveil New Line Of Minimalist But Upgradable Home Appliances

LG has introduced a new line of minimalist home appliances. A refrigerator, a washing machine, a dryer, an oven range, and a dishwasher are all part of the new line. Each is relatively unadorned with flashy decals or anything but the bare minimum of external controls, meaning that they "match with any kind of décor, color scheme or interior trend". In addition to aesthetic considerations, the reduction in the number of components and printed elements in their design ensures that these new home appliances meet LG's sustainability brief. LG also claims to use recyclable materials for internal and external parts. LG claims that its new appliances are upgradeable, which adds credence to its sustainability claims. "Users can add new features to the products via the Upgrade Center in the LG ThinQ app," according to the press release. "Upgradability calls into question the notion that high-priced appliances are designed with planned obsolescence in mind," said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics' home appliances at the time. "We want customers to feel the excitement of getting a new washer or refrigerator throughout the lifecycle of an LG appliance, not just the first time they bring it home." Improved controls for the refrigerator, washing machine, dryer, oven, and dishwasher are said to provide an "effortless" user experience. Unfortunately, LG's announcement lacks any specifics such as specifications, pricing, or release dates, so we'll have to wait until January 5th to learn more.
