According to what Newcastle Crown Court heard, a man reportedly pulled a woman he met on a night out into the woods while she was naked and then attacked and attempted to kill her.

The Actual Case

On March 10, this year, Matthew Stevens met the victim—an anonymous Gateshead lady in her 30s—while out on the town in Newcastle. Additionally, they took a taxi together in the early morning hours and were left off not far from Stevens' house in Brunswick Village, Newcastle, according to ChronicleLive. They were then seen on CCTV walking together across the streets, but there is a chilling 50-minute break before he is seen again. During this time, Stevens is accused of dragging the woman into the woods, stripping her down to just her socks, and assaulting her viciously, stealing her jewelry as a "trophy," the court heard. And at around 6 am, a dog walker came across the woman in the nearby woods, where she was barely alive and suffering from hypothermia. The woman's face had been "grossly swollen," the prosecutor Gavin Doig claimed, and she had many lacerations on her face in addition to bleeding from both of her eyes. Stevens had also tried to kill the woman, Doig added. She also had a punctured lung in addition to facial fractures.

More details

On the other hand, the victim, who has already fully recovered from her horrifying wounds, will not be testifying in court because she has no memory of the terrible night. That evening, she had gone out with a male friend, and the two of them had gone to Bobby's Bar, where Stevens just so happened to show up with a companion. Since the two companions were acquainted, Stevens and the victim struck up a conversation and swapped phone numbers. They then got in a taxi just before 3 in the morning, and the driver claimed she was more inebriated than Stevens was. She wanted to go home, he said, but Stevens had told the cab driver to proceed to Wideopen. On another note, two crime sites were reported to the court. The woman's clothing was discovered at the first, including her phone, other clothing she had been wearing, her ruined bra, and torn underwear that "looked as if they had been rolled down by someone else." She was then allegedly dragged or carried to the second crime site by the Newcastle man, which was located in the woodland area. The trial continues

Stevens had scratches on his hands that were consistent with having been sustained in the bushes when he was taken into custody. He initially claimed that another man driving a red BMW was to blame, but he has since admitted that he was the one who attacked. In addition, he now claims that after he attempted to stop her from crossing a field, she attacked him and he became enraged, inflicting injuries. The Newcastle man believes she was aware when he departed, but he denies stripping her or stomping on her. Lastly, the trial is still ongoing as Stevens disputes attempted murder.
