The Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are finally available publicly after six months of teasers. While we gave these phones full grades in our reviews, not everything appears to be in perfect working order. For example, we discovered that the Google Pixel 7 Pro's display consumes significantly more power than comparable phones at higher brightness levels. Another screen problem appears to be affecting some units. According to reports, touchscreen behaviour, particularly scrolling, can be highly inconsistent on the Pro model.
New Google Pixel 7 Pro owners have reported erratic scrolling behaviour on their screens. It appears that the touchscreen is more sensitive to quick and small movements. The problem does not appear to be as severe as some have suggested, at least not yet.
It's possible that the display's 120Hz refresh rate plays a role here, as many people upgrade from phones with lower refresh rates. The faster refresh rate results in a different look and feel when scrolling, which may alter one's perception of how scrolling responds to finger movements.
There have also been reports that similar issues exist on the smaller Pixel 7, but we cannot confirm these. It's possible that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro were conflated in these cases, leaving out which model was intended.
The good news is that many users report that after installing a system update on their new phones, their problems improved. This initial update is available to everyone who receives their phones for the first time, and we recommend installing it as well as all Google app updates to ensure that your phone is fully functional and bug-free when you first start using it.
