A "COLD-blooded" nurse sent a sympathy card and a grin to the mother of the baby she killed on her fourth attempt, the court heard today. While employed on the neo-natal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, Lucy Letby, 32, is accused of killing seven newborns and trying to kill 10 more. The "poisoner at work" has been accused of injecting two babies with insulin during a year-long killing spree. Letby is also accused of inserting air, milk, or a tube into the stomachs of victims in order to kill them or cause them injury. It was claimed that none of the 17 children's collapses or deaths were "naturally-occurring disasters."Lucy Letby Letby was described as "smiling and kept and kept going on about how she was present for Child I's first bath and how much Child I had liked it" by the baby's mother after Letby's death. She sent a sympathy card to the distraught parents, which was "not normal," the court was also informed. Despite her stature, Child I was considered to be "in good condition" and "resilient." Prosecutor Nick Johnson KC told jurors Letby succeeded on the fourth attempt to murder the baby. "It was persistent, deliberate, and cold-blooded," he continued. According to reports, the infant was doing well on October 12 and 13 of 2015, therefore the designated nurse asked either Letby or another employee on duty to keep an eye on her. Letby is said to have been standing in the doorway of the "darkened" room when the nurse reported that the infant "appeared pale" when she returned. Child I "looked to be at the point of death and was not breathing," the jury was told, when Child I was found by the designated nurse. When Letby reportedly tried to kill Child I two weeks prior, she was discovered to have gas bloating in her bowel.
