A senior journalist was detained by Pakistani police on Sunday, according to police, for his alleged role in his son's fatal assault of his new wife at their suburban house.
According to police officer Mohammad Faizan, Ayaz Amir, a prominent columnist and political analyst on Pakistani television, appeared in court in Islamabad on Sunday on charges of helping his son.
He was to be questioned by police for his involvement in the passing of Sara Inam, 37, who had recently wed Amir's son Shahnawaz.
After an argument over a family matter, Shahnawaz is accused of killing Inam on Friday at the couple's home. Following his arrest, Shahnawaz allegedly admitted to repeatedly striking his wife with a dumbbell before attempting to bury her body in a bathtub.
Pakistan has a bad track record regarding freedom of expression, and a couple of journalists have been assaulted and detained by police in recent months.
