Researchers Claim Bruce Lee Died Due to Excess Water Consumption

The enigma of the brain swelling that led to the demise of Bruce Lee has, according to doctors, been solved. The renowned actor and martial artist passed away at the age of 32 on July 20, 1973, in Hong Kong from brain swelling, which researchers now believe was brought on by consuming too much water. In the upcoming issue of the Clinical Kidney Journal, experts claim, "We propose that the kidney’s inability to excrete excess water killed Bruce Lee," adding that "Ironically, Lee made famous the quote 'Be water, my friend’ — but excess water appears to have ultimately killed him.” Now, nearly 50 years after the "Enter the Dragon" icon passed away, research indicates he most likely suffered from hyponatremia, which is a low sodium blood concentration that can be brought on by having too much water or fluid in the body, according to the Mayo Clinic. At the time, doctors thought the brain swelling was caused by a painkiller. Moreover, the researchers contend that Lee had a variety of risk factors for hyponatremia, such as a high fluid intake, factors that might increase thirst, like marijuana use, and factors that impair the kidneys' capacity to excrete water, like prescription drug use, alcohol consumption, having experienced kidney damage in the past, or a low solute intake. Researchers also take note of Lee's past history, especially his excessive water consumption, which may be related to his cause of death. More details Linda, Lee's wife, once made reference to his "carrot and apple juice" fluid-based diet. Additionally, Matthew Polly, the author of the 2018 book "Bruce Lee: A Life" frequently mentioned Bruce Lee's daily water consumption - especially in the period before Lee fell ill. Polly wrote in the book, "I think we had some water… that probably made him a little tired and thirsty. After a few sips he seemed to be a little dizzy… Immediately after feeling faint, Bruce complained of a headache." Also, other elements in Lee's medical history that researchers regarded potentially significant include cannabis, alcohol, poor dietary solute intake, prescription medications, diuretics, opioids, kidney disease, exercise, and a previous incident of cerebral edema two months before his death. Also, Read:  Shamima Begum was ‘sexually assaulted by ISIS’, said her lawyers "In conclusion, we hypothesize that Bruce Lee died from a specific form of kidney dysfunction: the inability to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis, which is mainly a tubular function,” the researchers concluded in the journal. "This may lead to hyponatremia, cerebral edema, and death within hours if excess water intake is not matched by water excretion in urine, which is in line with the timeline of Lee’s demise.”
