Rumors About Sony’s PlayStation Slim 5 Release Date and Specs

image credit - earlygame.com There had been a lot of talk about the PS5 Slim, but in August 2023, a pretty shocking video came out showing what looks like the console's outer case. The first reports about a new PS5 model were about a version without a disk drive that could be used with a separate, detachable disk drive. This would be another step away from physical media. The "leaked" video from X (formerly known as Twitter) user BwE_Dev, who claims to be showing the PS5 Slim's case, adds fuel to the fire.

In many ways, the system is a lot like the PS5 we already have. But it looks a bit shorter, and the front and back plates are now more like quarters. That fits with a rumor that the console will have a removable or optional disc drive. This could be Sony's way of making the same core console and giving a modular disc drive instead of making two separate units, as it now does. One smaller change is that the front of the system will now have two USB-C ports instead of one USB-C port and one USB-A port, which is good for charging accessories. The form is almost the same as the base model, but there is a clear slot where people think the removable disk drive could slide in and out, and the white cover has a diagonal cut. According to the sources, the Slim will be around 5 centimeters shorter than the base units.

The PS5 Slim looks like a pretty direct replacement for the standard PS5 versions you can buy now, so you shouldn't exactly expect it to drastically lower the price of entry for Sony's latest console generation. Also read - New Slim Pro and Yoga laptops from Lenovo are available for creative workers. But since a PS5 Pro is likely to come out, the PS5 Slim might be cheaper than the other types. We'll have to see what Sony does. As part of its recent case with the FTC, Microsoft said that it expected the PS5 Slim to cost $400, which would be a welcome price drop. If the PS5 Slim is really going to come out this fall, Sony needs to make an official release soon so people can start preordering.
