Tom Hardy, who played Max in Mad Max: Fury Road, won a martial arts competition that he secretly joined. The 45-year-old British actor, according to The Guardian, signed up for the 2022 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Championship, which will be hosted at Oakgrove School in Milton Keynes as part of the Ultimate Martial Arts Championships. “Everyone recognised him but he was very humble and was happy to take time out for people to take photographs with him,” said a spokesperson for the event. “It was a real pleasure to have him compete at our event.” Tom Hardy Wins Martial Arts Champion As he won every bout, took the competition by storm, and took first place, Hardy was seen at the event sporting a blue gi. His certificate was given to his real name, Edward Hardy. This wasn't the actor's first appearance at a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition; he is best known for playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. The actor and blue belt fighter attended the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Wolverhampton back in August. He triumphed there as well.     “I was shell-shocked,” said one of his opponents, Danny Appleby to Teeside Live. “[Hardy] said, ‘Just forget it’s me and do what you would normally do.’” Appleby said that Hardy is “a really strong guy… You wouldn’t think it with him being a celebrity.” “I’ve done about six tournaments and I’ve been on the podium in every one,” he added. “But he’s probably the toughest competitor I’ve had – he certainly lived up to his Bane character, that’s for sure.” Hardy is well-known for his gruff on-screen characters; he has been in films like Peaky Blinder, Venom, and Mad Max: Fury Road, among others. He even has dual roles in the 2015 biographical movie Legend as both Kray twins. However, Hardy played MMA fighter Tommy Riordan Conlon in the 2011 movie Warrior, a part that now feels very personal. “I came back a different man from when I went away to Warrior,” he told IGN at the time. “I picked up an awful lot... the stunt team was incredible, and all the fighters that came in, all the other actors. It was a tremendously, potentially testosterone-fueled set of men, and it was a potentially testosterone-fueled environment that turned out not to be that bad at all. What I thought was going to be very intimidating turned out to be an incredible passage of rites. But it was very gentle, very encouraging.”
