With Werewolf by Night, Disney+ will host the first-ever "Unique Presentation" set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), making October a particular month for Marvel. Marvel Studios has never before produced a television special; instead, they have only previously produced series, short films, or feature films. Werewolf By Night, which debuts in October just in time for Halloween, will also be the MCU's first-holiday special. In addition, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, a Christmas-themed TV movie directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt's band of intergalactic superheroes, will be available on Disney+. There are now just two special presentations set in the MCU, but a recent rumor says Marvel Studios intends to use the format again. Upcoming MCU shows to be scrapped by Disney+ in favor of specials Marvel Studios is preparing additional special presentations. -The Cosmic Circus reports that Marvel Studios intends to use the special presentation style more frequently with films that aren't necessarily seasonal. Instead, they will be employed to broaden the MCU in a manner unrelated to the longer-form narrative of a Disney+ series. Additionally, by doing this, Marvel can introduce new characters to the MCU. They might not necessarily star in their films but could still benefit from a condensed narrative. According to the outlet's sources, Marvel and Disney+ are thinking about ditching their show plans for some upcoming Disney+ programs that are still in the early stages of creation to turn them into unique presentations. Which Marvel Disney+ projects might be adapted into this format needs to be discovered. Upcoming MCU shows to be scrapped by Disney+ in favor of specials Do Special Presentations Portend the MCU's Future? Disney+'s launch marked Marvel Studios' first foray into streaming programs, but this unique presentation method is another option for the MCU to keep expanding. Although Werewolf By Night has yet to premiere on Disney+, critics have already praised the special, and Marvel execs may view this as a feasible strategy for upcoming films. Several projects currently in development could move to the unique presentation format, including some MCU titles. The Ten Rings-focused projects and the spin-off of Wakanda are both still in the early stages of development, so they may easily switch to a shorter structure. Marvel Studios frequently modifies the format of a project after it has been publicly publicized. For example, it was revealed that Don Cheadle's Armor Wars would be turned into a movie rather than a Disney+ series. The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special and Werewolf by Night won't be the final MCU-related specials if their respective performances are successful.
