Valve is Creating a New VR Headset

With the launching of the Valve Index in 2019, Valve joined the VR industry, but it now seems to have focused its hardware efforts on the Steam Deck. Due to its leadership of the online retailer Steam and the creation of seminal PC titles like the Half-Life and Portal series, Valve is the firm most closely associated with contemporary PC gaming. With the debut of the aforementioned Valve Index and, in 2022, the Steam Deck, the corporation has shifted its focus more towards hardware advancements in recent years. The headgear lineups from Oculus and HTC Vive were fierce competitors for the Index. While the Steam Deck has been the focus of the majority of Valve's recent hardware work, the company's VR efforts are still very much in the early stages, according to an interview product designer Greg Coomer gave to the Korean website This Is Game. Coomer claims in the interview that Valve has been developing a VR headgear but is unable to provide any further details. Nevertheless, he confirmed that VR is a direction Valve will keep going in. This might hint that Half-Life: Alyx's rumored PS VR2 release or the existence of further Valve VR titles under development is real. When compared to other portable PC options, the Steam Deck launched at a somewhat cheaper price range, which contributed to its success. Since the whole Valve Index kit costs $1,000, it is fiercely competitive with rival headsets that are offered at cheaper pricing. As a result, Steam Deck rivals like the Asus ROG Ally have been developed.
